The Advanced (Higher) School of Tourism Education of Crete (ASTEK) was established in 1995 in the city of Agios Nikolaos to provide quality professional education at the tertiary level in the field of Hotel Management. Today, ASTEAK operates under the Ministry of Tourism and offers an academic program designed to prepare senior executives for the hospitality industry.
Tourism is a major contributor to the Greek economy and a sector of rising competitiveness at global level. Given the globalization of the industry, the improvement of its competitiveness depends a lot on the quality of human resources. Therefore, ASTEK has adopted a contemporary curriculum designed to provide state of the art, tertiary level, professional education and training and help students develop the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the field, and ensure a good advancement in professional growth and career. Graduates of ASTEK find employment mainly in hotels, but also in restaurants, cruise ships, etc., or they become entrepreneurs managing their own businesses.
